Semalt Expert: The Best Google Analytics Filters

Most of the businessmen know so little about web analytics and the importance of Google Analytics. They occasionally sign in to their AdSense accounts and never pay attention to what's going on in their dashboards. Only a few people know the importance of Google Analytics and the tricks associated with it.

Jason Adler, the Customer Success Manager of Semalt, clarifies that filters are of great help as they assist in managing the type of data our websites receive. In case, you see some drawbacks in your Google Analytics reports, this is time to create some filters to ensure your website's protection. The filters eliminate all debris and dirt until you are provided with only what is legitimate, authentic and reliable. Unfiltered and raw data cannot provide you with the desired results. That will also tell nothing about what the performance of your website is and how to improve it. To set up your filters, you should go to your Google Analytics and click on the account section where the filters are present or where you want to create them. You should never view the report without creating appropriate filters as it can lower the performance of your website. You should add as many filters as possible to improve the overall performance of your site.

Excluding Internal Traffic

You should always pay attention to excluding the internal traffic and unknown sources of your site. If you see that the performance of your site is not as expected, this is the time when you should create filters and activate them on an immediate basis. You should apply the filters and exclude the unfamiliar IPs from your list to get the desired results. First of all, you should enter the name of your filter and click on the exclude internal filter button. In the old version of Google Analytics, you were not able to create filters and could not exclude the IPs from the list. But now it is possible to perform both of the tasks in a better way.

Force URL Reports to lowercase only

Another thing you should remember is that you force URL reports to the lowercase. One of the major and most irritating problems with Google Analytics is that it shows different types of reports both for upper case and lower case. However, it is possible to get rid of this problem by forcing URL reports to lower case only. Doing so you can ensure that your site's health and its authenticity are maintained throughout the month.

Full Referral URL

If you are into building some links, you should look for the referral websites in Google Analytics. Here it is possible for you to find relevant data that will show up your domain and subdomain URLs. You should always bear in mind that your tracking code is properly installed in the Google Analytics. Without this code, you may not be able to grab the snippets and put them up on your website.
