もちつけ!郊外に定住するのはどうだ?

settle down : 落ち着く
how about~? : ~はどうですか?
suburb : 郊外、近郊(複数形で使う)



sort : 種類、を分類する

What sort of wota are you while in concert hall?
コンサート会場にいる間、あなたはどんな種類のヲタなんですか?

what sort of = what kind of : どんな種類の
while : ~の間

because of = thanks to = due to = on account of = owing to : ~のために、~のせいで

アメリカ人の使用頻度順に並べた。

"because of""thanks to"がよく使われる。
"due to""on account of"は、書き言葉として使うことが多く、
"owing to"はかしこまった文章で使う。

They admired Nakazawa ne-san for the Christmas concert on account of the unplaned encore.
予定されていないアンコールのお陰で、中澤姐さんのクリスマスコンサートは賞賛された。

admire A for B : BにおいてAを褒める、AのBを褒める
unplaned : 予定されてない
encore : アンコール



welfare : 福祉

The man kind to little girls is gentle to welfare.
ちっちゃいこに優しい人は、福祉にも優しい。

"the man who is kind"(優しい人)が、"the man kind"と略されている。

kind to : ~に優しい
gentle to : ~に優しい

Aya chan was about to come out when the rain stoped.
雨がやんだとき、亜弥ちゃんは出て来ようとしているところだった。
(亜弥ちゃんが出て来ようとしたところ、雨がやんだ。)

come out : 出て来る
rain stops : 雨がやむ



be apt to do(be) : しがちである、する傾向がある

The clothes Momoko wears is apt to be girlish.
桃子の着る服は、女の子らしくなりがちだ。

"the clothes whichi Momoko wears"(桃子が着る服)のwhichが省略されている。

cloth : 布
clothes : 服(「クローズ」と読む)
wear : 着る



tend to do : しがちである、する傾向がある

Those who couldn't participate in an important event tend to say that they are makegumi.
重要なイベントに参加できなかった人達は、自分が負け組だと言う傾向がある。

those : 人々(those whoという形で、死ぬほど使う)
participate in : 参加する(take part inも同じ意味。超重要)

alternative : 代わりの

In the future, wota's enthusiasm will become alternative energy resource.
将来、ヲタの熱気は代替エネルギー資源になるだろう。

enthusiasm : 情熱、熱意
energy : エネルギー(読み方はエナジー)
resource : 資源


alternative : 二者択一の

To ask "which do you like Risyako or Maasa?" is nonsense, for it is the alternative.
「りしゃことまあさ、どっち推し?」と尋ねることは意味がない、というのもそれは二者択一問題だからだ。

nonsense : 無意味、ナンセンス
for : というのも(becauseと意味は同じ。理由を"付け足す"ので、文頭にはつけない)

「the 形容詞」は「~なもの or ~な人」という意味。
the rich : 金持ちな人
the little : わずかなこと
the alternative : 二者択一の問題



converse : 逆の , opposite : 反対側の , contrary : 相容れない

反対という意味の単語を、意味の弱い順に並べた。
oppositeが最も一般的。


Kago chan sat on opposite sides of my seat.
加護ちゃんは僕の席の反対側に座った。

sat : sitの過去・過去分詞形
opposite sides of : ~の反対側
