Let's see, where do I start?
So much has happened. Totally unexpected, serendipitous things happened.
My QOTSA friend, K, flew into Vegas from Japan.
She made a decision to join D-san and me for the Vegas show after QOTSA had to cancel Fuji Rock Festival.
We met for lunch on Saturday, picked up the tickets and checked out the venue in The Cosmopolitan. At 2:30 pm, there were already a few people there checking out the entrance to the Boulevard Pool.
K and I had a secret plan.
We were going to wear our Yukata (casual summer wear of Kimono) to the show.
We were going to wear Yukata, be at the front row to make an appeal to the band to come back to Japan. We were going to REPRESENT!
So we've agreed to commit to the plan. We went back to our hotels, change to Yukata, and head back to the Cosmopolitan.
As we made our way, some people complimented that we had nice "Kimonos."
The door was going to open at 8:00 pm, show was scheduled to start at 9:00 pm.
We got there at 5:20 pm. Went up the wrong elevator right by the pool. As staff inside the glass door opened the door to tell us we had to go back and come around from the West elevator, we couldn't see, but could totally hear the full-on "3's & 7's." They were rehearsing/sound checking.
Initial instruction of a man in suits that there is no one waiting for the line yet and we can't go any further was incorrect.
The real manager of the venue came to us, who were standing around the Merch table being set up, to compliment our Yukata. "You ladies look lovely!"
I wanted to make sure he knows that we're already waiting, so I said to him; "Could we be the first ones in line?" Then he told me there were already others down the hall. He escorted us there.
There were already 7 people in front of us. Not bad.
Two ladies on the front were the ladies we saw at 2:30. They had been there since then, they said.
The hall way to the venue already had a podium that's where people were sitting in line. Standing around for 2 and half hours were going to be too hard, so we also sat on the floor. The carpet was clean and hallway was air conditioned. We had to sit up to keep the Yukata and its Obi ribbons straight, but it was much better than standing for a long time.
Around 5:30, a few guys came down the hall way from the pool.
I had to second look at them to notice it was Josh Homme and Joey Castillo with few crews.
I panicked and waived at them with a big smile like an idiot. (-_-;)
Josh waived back and as he passed us, he noticed our Yukata, turned to us and said "You guys look amazing." I said "THANK YOU!" back to him.
At this point, we were sure that he'd notice us if we end up at the front row. We had to make it happen since we've come this far.
K had a sign made up from a large handkerchief that read "We Need QOTSA - From Japan."
They were done with sound check and going back to their rooms.
We took turns to go to the restroom and check out the Merch table.
As I walked down the hall, the line was getting longer quickly. Many people smiled at me and gave me compliments on my Yukata. I was delighted.
It was a hassle, but I'm glad I did this. It made it easy to make friends.
The first ones in line, Miss J & Miss H, were really nice. She had been charming the security supervisor, which pays off big time later.
I asked them if we could try to be right with them on the front to be safe, they welcomed us.
Right before 8:00 pm, the doors opened.
Girls in front of me started running, so I slipped on my high wedge sandal, started running after K, who were running faster with better shoes. (^_^)
As we approached the front row, Miss J & Miss H was signaling to come next to them. We were right in front of Josh's set up. Miss J gave us tips on how to hold down our spot against the railing, how to be safe, and many more great tips. She befriended the security guys and guys behind us so that if the crowd behind us push, they will help us not to get crushed.
I have never seen such well dressed security at shows before, so I had to tell them that. They were dressed in black suits with ties. Really sharp looking guys.
Soon, a drunk man who kept screaming gibberish angrily showed up a few rows behind us. Already picking a fight with the security supervisor, Jeffrey the Cowboy. We though this guy will be kicked out before the show even starts. What an idiot! They can kick out any misbehaving person they want. And the guys behind us really did a good job keeping this jerk from coming right behind us or even cut in front of us. This guy was really eager yet seem to have little knowledge of what goes on at a show like this. He kept screaming "Fuck Yourself!" which angered Jefferey and almost got himself kicked out.
This is exactly the kind of guy who gets chewed up and kicked out by Josh. I've seen it happened in videos or in person at Bricks in Salt Lake City in 2002. I was worried that this one guy will piss off Josh. He seemed so drunk already. At one point, he started to bother D-san; "Hey big guy! Let's yell something, you and me, together!!!" I got mad and almost said "He's not yelling anything, you shut the fuck up!" But D-san said "I am not yelling anything, dude" so calmly and dismissed him. So cool.
Everyone was rolling their eyes. We were just chatting and being friendly to each other and this guy just wanted to scream "Joooosh!!!" or "Hooommmeee!!!" over our heads over and over. Miss J said to him, "They aren't coming out for another 2 hours. Shut the fuck up." He just kept saying "Fuck yourself" to everyone.
This guy kept leaving and coming back, but as he kept doing that, the crowd kept him further and further back. Thank god. D-san later told me this jerk was being a jerk every where he went.
Right on time at 9:00 pm, Le Butcherettes came out. A keyboard on an ironing board. Loud guitar. Aprons. Apples. Spit. Bananas. Really loud. It was great.
I must say that after the first song, she saw us and broke the character and showed us a big smile. Just once. Yukata effect! The only jerk in the venue screamed "Kyuss!!" Unbelievable. I hope Le Butcherettes didn't hear it. They finished at 9:29 pm. I'd definitely go see them if they came to SLC.
At 10:00, Queens Of The Stone Age came out. Here is the real setlist, which differs from the printed one.

Yes, they didn't play the 1st album in its entirety, but it really didn't matter.
I mean, look at this! It felt like I was being stuck by continuous lightening the whole time.
"Regular John" literally blew me away. I couldn't believe what was going on right in front of me.
I got to see every guitar solo up close right in front of Josh.
I didn't care about my Yukata any more. I danced, banged my head, jumped really hard.
It was a good thing I practiced and layered well on tight dressing Yukata. It held up the whole time.
Many people around me were real fans. We sang along almost all the songs. "Burn The Witch" was so much fun.
Speaking of "Burn The Witch," Dean and Josh started playing guitars at each other. That was amazing to hear and amazing to see.
The set ended with "You Can't Quit Me, Baby" which I have been saying that I just can't die without listening to it live.
When I heard the bass line started, screamed in a way I didn't know I could. K said I jumped so high a couple of times.
I was overwhelmed. I had my hand on my face in disbelief. Josh was singing the intro "Out of control...out of control" then saw me. And he stared right at me for about 8 seconds. I was completely hypnotized. I started breathing heavily, I put my hand on my heart. I could feel my heart pounding.
It truly was a dream come true.
We hang K's sign off the railing the whole time. I lost my grip at one point and Miss J screamed at me "Fix your sign! He's looking at you guys!!"
After the show, I was out of my mind. Didn't know what to think. Overwhelmed by the great sound.
We stuck around to see if I can get a setlist off the stage. Troy's guitar tech guy came by a couple of times. Everyone at the front was asking him for a setlist. Dang, he gave it to someone else. As D-san, who were in the back, caught up with us and we were about to leave, the guitar tech guy came to us directly with a folded setlist. He said something but I couldn't hear what he said. Inside the setlist, there was a custom Q guitar pick. I immediately told K to hold onto the pick. As we were looking at the setlist, a woman approached and try to buy the setlist off from K. I said this is priceless. She kept saying she will pay good money. There was no way I or K would sell it. I wanted K to have it. This was her trip to USA, first QOTSA show. I wanted to make it special and this was something I was going to make sure she will take it home. The woman wouldn't give up. Like she doesn't understand that we were fanatic fans who were right up front. I finally said, "NO WAY. She flew in from Japan for this, it is priceless to her." What was this woman thinking? How much does she think it cost to fly from Japan?! Give me a fucking break.
Inside the setlist, there was a card in Japanese writing "Hanshin Tigers" which is my favorite baseball team in Japan. I was puzzled. I turned the card and realized it was a business card.
I didn't know what it meant but D-san pointed out that it means we could call him. Really?! Maybe we'd get to meet the band?! So we called the number. It was the guitar tech guy, Mr.E. He could speak Japanese. Awesome. He was wondering if we'd stick around for a little chat. It wasn't an invitation to meet the band, but we were still very much delighted. We agreed to stick around until he's done.
We went downstairs to get something to drink. We were so dehydrated. Casino area was so crowded and bars were chaotic. And there was a Kiosk that was selling bottles of water. $4 a bottle somehow seemed very reasonable after a day in Vegas. We got some water but couldn't find anywhere to sit. I suggested to go back to the 4th floor where the pool venue was located but the elevator lobby had lots of lounge chairs. I remembered there were a few people sitting around. We got back on the elevator.
The sitting area was quiet and deserted. There were a couple of guys still hanging out. I thought they were also resting. I texted Mr.E where we were.
We were just there sitting, sipping water, talking about how great the show was. We were still wearing Yukata. And then, Josh and Mikey shows up with few crews from the direction of the pool toward the elevator. They were going back to their room.
Holy crap!
I stood up.
Josh immediately noticed us and made a face like "Awww" with his hands together in front of his chest. He said something like "the girls in Kimonos" and walked right up to us. And he opened his arms toward K to offer a hug. Then he gave me a hug. Un-fucking-believable. So nice. So handsome.
He thanked us for coming and we thanked him for the great show. I asked if we could take a couple of pictures with him. He said "of course." As D-san took pictures of us with three different cameras, he thanked Josh for his time even though he must be tired. Josh said "yes, Joshua is very tired." (^_^) But he was so nice and also took pictures with the other guys who were there. Meanwhile, Mikey has left already and we didn't have a chance to meet him. I did meet him once in Billings in 2007 after the show. He was quiet but nice and gave me his autograph.
They were saying that they have to get on the bus and leave soon. So there was no after party.
Dang. I have to admit that I was hoping maybe we'd be invited if there was one.
After they left. K and my knees became weak.
We held onto the back of chairs to hold ourselves up. We couldn't believe what has just happened. We weren't waiting for them. It was a very very very lucky coincidence. We talked to the other guys and they saw the band there earlier so figured they will come back the same way after the show. We were accidentally and unknowingly just sitting there.
Then Joey also came down. He also took pictures with us. He may seem scarey on stage, but he seems so lay back and easy going in person.
D-san said quietly "Sexy Mexi" LOL He really was sexy.
Then you guessed it, Dean came down next. Holy crap, this guy is super handsome.
D-san said to him that he's seen him more than a couple of times now (6 times?), Dean said something like "oh yeah?" so I added "also with Dead Weather."
"Oh cool" he said. We praised how great he was. He really was. He had so many instruments around him on stage.
Then the guitar tech guy, Mr.E, came to see us.
He sat down and spent more time talking with us. We were all so delighted.
He also gave me a Q custom guitar pic. (YAY!) He's gone to Japan many times for work and leisure. He studies his Japanese with a tutor. He also said all the guys in the band saw us and our sign from the stage. (OMG!) Yukata did stand out! I think we accomplished our mission. Then Troy came down. Mr. E stopped Troy to come over.
Troy is also a very cool guy. So delightful.
Then the guitar tech guy for Josh walked by. He is Mr.R. He gave D-san a guitar pic. Now all of us got one!!
He was saying that they need to go back to pack, and get on the bus at 3:00 am. It was passed 2:00 am.
I asked if we all could take a picture with them. R. Mr.R kept saying that he's so sweaty and gross. He wouldn't even to shake hands with me.
But he was not gross at all. He smelled just fine, even though it was a hot outdoor venue. Both of them seemed as tired as the band.
So we thanked them and let them go back to their room.
Oh, my, god. Everyone was so nice. QOTSA consist of very nice guys, including the crew.
What a band. What an experience we had.

ええと、いったいどこから始めたらいいんだろう。
それくらい偶然が重なって素晴らしいことがおきてしまいました。
QOTSA仲間のＫちゃんがラスベガスのライブに遠征してくれて、とても特別なライブとなりました。
今回は、浴衣を着て日本来日をアピールしよう！という使命があったのです。
ラスベガスはとんでもなく暑いし、ライブ中着崩れが気になって楽しめなかったらどうしよう、など心配なこともあったけど、決行を決意。
最前列なんか試してみたこともない私ですが、Ｋちゃんとも相談して頑張りました。
Ｋちゃんとは当日ラスベガスで合流。滞在していたホテルのロビーで初対面。
お喋りしながら車で会場であるホテル、コスモポリタンに到着。
コスモポリタンはべガス最近の高級リゾートカジノ。
内装からスペースの取り方から、駐車場のシステムまで、何から何まで最新で美しく、どこまで広い。
ベラジオのお隣に登場しただけはある。
コンジアージュのオフィスで購入しておいたチケットを発見してもらい、会場となる屋外プールを見てみようということに。
まだ真新しくて情報があまり出回っていないこの会場、４階の屋外エリアにあり、メインストリートのストリップの絶景が楽しめるとか。
言われた通りに４階で降りると、だだっ広い廊下が右にも左にも果てしなくつづいている。
いろんなところの壁に設置されてあるタッチスクリーンの地図で確認して、プールの方向に向かうと、すでにＱのシャツを着た女性が後ろをついてくるではないですか。
プール入り口までは左に超ゴージャスなパーティ会場があり、廊下もすごく広いカーペット敷き。
ほほう、ここにきっと会場前に並ばせるんだな、とかなんとかチェックしながら進むと、プール入り口のスタッフが既に現れたファンと歓談中。
やはり宿泊客じゃないと入れないようになっていたので、そこから中をのぞくけど何がなんだかわからない。めちゃめちゃ混んでいる。
プールがどうやって夜ライブ会場になるんだろうという疑問は晴れないまま、とりあえずランチを食べるために退散。
水を抜くのかフタをするのか、よーわからん。外からプールらしき物が見えて巨大スクリーンがそびえているのでステージがその横なのはわかったけど。
コスモポリタン内でランチしようと思ったらブッフェが超高い上に４０分待ち。
そんな時間はないので向かいのプラネットハリウッドないのイタリアンでランチ。そこで再集合を１７時にして１８時前に並び始めることで同意。
ちなみに開場は２０時。気合いが入ってます。
Ｋちゃんとホテルに送って自分のホテルにチェックインしたら、ほとんど浴衣に着替える時間がもうギリギリしかない。
急いで化粧を直して浴衣に着がえ、すぐ出発。
それにしても、暑い、べガス暑過ぎる。
でもＫちゃんは乾燥してるからそうでもないという。私とＤさんには湿気がすご過ぎてバテバテ。やっぱり標高が高いからユタは日差しはもっときつくても涼しく感じるのか。
せっかく直した化粧が車の中でグダグダになるのを感じながら（笑）、可愛い浴衣姿で待っててくれたＫちゃんを拾ってコスモポリタンに戻る。
さっき予習をしていたのはよかったけど、プールに近い方のエレベーターから上がってみたら、プールの裏手に出ちゃった。ガラスドアを開けてスタッフが、「申し訳ないけど一回降りて、向こうのエレベーターから上がってきて」と説明。説明してくれるのはいいけど、後ろから思いっきり「3s & 7s」が聴こえるではないか。ジョシュが歌ってるではないか。
私とＫちゃんはもうスタッフの方よりも後ろが気になって仕方ない。
Ｄさんも、見えないけどここに残って聴いていたい、というけど、私はそれよりも開場待ちの列が気になるのでその場を去るを提案。
一階降りて、ながーい廊下を戻って、また一階上がって、昼頃に来た廊下に戻る。もうグッズ売り場の設定が始まってる。ファンらしき人は誰もいない。
スタッフはいっぱいいて、私たちの浴衣を不思議そうに見てる（笑）
そこにいたスーツの男性に、まだ開場は２０時とかだけど？と言われたので、今からもう待っていたいんだと伝えると、じゃあここでいいけど、と言うので待っていたら、後で本当の開場のマネージャーらしき人がやってきて、浴衣綺麗だねーって声をかけてくれたので、「一番始めに開場入りしたい」って言ったら、「あ、じゃあもっとこっちだよ、もう並んでるよ」と言われてガーン！
さらに角を曲がって廊下を進むと、確かにもう７人くらい待っているではないですか。皆壁に沿って座り込んでます。
一番前から女性ふたり組、女性ひとり、女性ひとり、女性ふたり＋男性ひとり、という具合。やっぱり早くから来るのは女性ですなあ。
そしてよく話してみたら、一番前の女性ふたり、お昼頃にもう既にここにいたふたり。まさかあれから待ち始めるとは思ってもみなんだ。
行ったり来たりするセキュリティのおじさんとお友達になったみたいで、飴を持って来てくれたり、私たちにも水のボトルを与えてくれたり、有り難かった有り難かった。
セキュリティやスタッフに親切に声をかけることは良いテクニックなのだな。ふむふむ。
開場まで２時間半以上あるのに立っているのは辛いので、観念してウェッジサンダル脱いで、私たちも床に座る。しばし正座、そして横座り。（笑）
最前列でもどうせ見えるのは帯から上くらいだ、少々しわが下の身頃についたってしゃーない。
外の開場は暑そうだけど、待ってるその広い廊下は、綺麗なカーペット敷きで冷房も効いていて、わりと快適。
プールから出てくる普通の宿泊客は困惑してたけどw それにしてもハリポタのイベント？って何度か聞かれて皆「なんでやねん」って言って笑ってました。
さて待ち始めて１５分後くらいだったかな、プールの方から男性数人が歩いてくるなと思ってチラっと見て、アレ？と思って２度見したら、なんとジョーイとジョシュとクルー数人ではないですか。
あわわわわ
横座りの姿勢のまま、パニクって笑顔でブンブン手を振ることしかできなかった。（笑）
私たちの前を通り過ぎる時にジョシュは手を振り返してくれ、こちらの方に振り返りながら；「You guys look amazing!(君たちとても素敵だね)」ってなんと声をかけてくれたではないですか。咄嗟に私は「THANK YOU!」としか返せなかったけど、返せただけで上等。
彼らが去ってから心臓がバクバクバクバクすごかった。
心の中ではぎゃああああああああと発狂しそうだった。
それを即ツイートするＫちゃんと私。（爆）
浴衣見られちゃったよ、どうするよ、これはもう最前列やるしかないよー！と一気に盛り上がる。
また戻ってくるかなーなんて思ったけど、サウンドチェックを終えてお部屋に帰って行った模様。
でもほんと、浴衣着てるだけで目立って、お手洗いに行く時にもいろんな人に声をかけてもらって、よいキッカケ作りになったなー。
女子にとって安心安全なロックのライブは、とにかく開演前に周りと仲良くなっておくことが大事なんだとしみじみ感じたのですよ。
さて、２０時少し前に突然開場宣言。
ウェッジサンダルは一度脱ぐとＤさんに留めてもらっていたので、サンダルひっかけたまま、前のお姉さんたちに付いて走る。（笑）
Ｋちゃん、走るの早い。よい靴で参戦してるだけあるわー。
先ほど、暴れる連中を避けたいから、一緒に観たいと声をかけておいたら、一番前に並んでたＪさんとＨさんが最前列で私たちのスポットを確保して待っていてくれました。
手招きで「こっちこっち！」って行ってみたら、最前列ど真ん中。ジョシュよりはほんの少し左手ですが、ほぼ目の前で、トロイもディーンもよく見えるナイススポット！
こりゃすごいことになるぞとドキドキしてくるではないかっ。
Ｊさんがそれからどうやって自分のスポットを確保するか、前のレールをどう掴んだらいいか、押されたらどうやって体がつぶされないようにつっぱるか、割り込まれそうになったらどうするか、などいろいろテクニックを伝授してくれた。なんて優しいおねえさんなんだろう。（涙）スポットを確保した後も、Ｊさんは巧みにステージとレールの間に立っているセキュリティと仲良くなり、すぐ後ろに立ったお兄ちゃんたちにも声をかけて味方にしてしまう。
味方にしちゃうとね、割り込んでこないからね。頭良いな。
するとそのすぐ後ろにすでにグデングデンに酔ってるうるさいアホが現れた。
まだセッティングしてるのに「ホーミーホーミー！」「ジョーシュ！ジョーシュ！」ってうるさいうるさい。
しかも後ろの兄ちゃん達の間に割り込む気マンマン。（汗）
まだ皆が静かに立ち話してるのに、一人でわけのわからんことをわめいたり、セキュリティに喧嘩売ったりするので、開演前から追い出されそうになるそのアホ男。
セキュリティに喧嘩売ってどうするねん。誰でも追い出せるねんぞ、あの人らは。アホか。
さっきまで私たちにはめちゃくちゃ優しくてお水持って来てくれたりしてたセキュリティのおっちゃんも、そのアホが「Fuck yourself!」って叫んだのを耳にして、レール（柵）から身を乗り出して「なんやとゴルァ！今なんて言ったお前！」ってすげー怖いおっさんに大変身。「水くらいくらいくれたってええやろうがあ」「俺はバーテンちゃうぞゴルァ。水欲しかったらバーまで行けや、警察と待ってるぞ」とまあすごいことに。
親切にしてたら黙っててもお水を持って来てくれるおっちゃんも、アホにエラそうに注文されたらそりゃキレるわな。
そのあとそのおっちゃんは全員スーツ姿のコワモテセキュリティに「アイツに要注意」とそのアホを監視するように指示してた。助かった。
Ｄさんにも「そこの大きいの！なあ！一緒に叫ぼうぜ！」とかわけのわからない絡み方をしていたそのアホは、Ｄさんに「何も叫びませんけどw」とあしらわれ、周りには失笑され、後ろと前を行ったり来たりするうちに、もっと人が入って前の方にはもう来れないようになる。ざまーみろ。
Ｄさんは始めから後ろで録音する予定だったので、そのアホが割り込んでくるのを恐れて、Ｋちゃんの後ろに立っていた良い感じのカップルの背の低い彼女の方に、もうすぐ譲るからスイッチしてね、と打ち合わせます。
優しいよなあ、Ｄさん。
そのアホは、オープニングアクトのLe Butcherettesの演奏中にも「Kyuss!!!」とか叫んで周りを相当引かせました。（ー＿ー；
ほんまに失礼なやつやなあ。Le Butcherettesは、ドラム・ベース・ギターの３ピースで、ギターとボーカルの女性がエプロン姿で登場。
エプロンからリンゴやらバナナやらを出してステージ端に置き、キーボードの台はよく見たらアイロン台。
政治的なメッセージがこめてあるようなパフォーマンスで、すっごい爆音で、カッコ良かった。ソルトレイクに来たら絶対観に行きたい。
時間通りに２２時にＱが登場。
セットリストは上記の通り。
１stアルバム全曲やらなかったけど、飽きたって本人達言ってたし、やりたいことやってくれて私たちは本当に文句の付けようのない素晴らしいライブ。
すごい音量で、音がバイブレーションや風となって肌で感じるのに、耳が痛くならないこのミキシングのハッチ氏の技術にも脱帽。
Dead Weatherのメンバーでもあるディーンがギターも弾くシーンがあり、Regular Johnとかギター３本になってかなり凄かった。
そして私がずっとこの曲をライブで聴くまでは死ねないと思っていたYou Can't Quit Meが聴けて、私は昇天。
あのベースラインが始まったとき、自分でもできるとは知らなかった奇声を発してしまい、Ｋちゃんによるとしかもすごい勢いでジャンプし始めたそうです。←覚えてないw
あまりの感動に手を顔に当ててひとりで「うわーヤバいいいいい」ってなりながら目の前のジョシュを見上げていると、新しいイントロでちらりと歌う部分で、見つめ返されてしまいましたわよ、奥さん！本当に本当に。自分でも疑ったんだもん、でもじーっと目が合ったままだったんだもん、８秒くらい。
ワタクシ催眠にかかってしまいましてよ。もうポカーンて。デレーって。
そのうち息が激しくなってきて、胸に手を当てたら心臓ドキドキスゴかった。
さ、最前列すごい。
参りました。一生忘れられない経験となりました。
私が悪ぅございました。（笑）
いやーなんか癖になりそう。
あんな前にいて音も良いってどういうこと？爆音だったのに耳が痛くないってどういうマジック？！
ジョシュお抱えのサウンド・ガイのハッチさんてすごいなあ。さすがだなあ。
何がすごいってここからの話もすごいんだってば、奥さん。
終わってから、最前列に張り付いたまま、ステージをかたし始めたクルーにセットリストを他の人達とせがんでいた私たち。（笑）
Ｄさんがやってきて、あきらめて去るかと思ったそのとき、トロイのギターテックの人が柵越しにやって来て、４つ折りにした紙を差し出すじゃないですか。
開けてみるとなんとそれはセットリスト！うぎゃあああああああ！
そして中に何か入ってます。
黄色のＱカスタムギターピック！
ぎゃおす！
Ｋちゃんに即効しかと持つように伝える。はるばる来た彼女にこんな素晴らしい思い出の品はあるでしょうか。
え、ウソ、ウソでしょ？！ええええええ！と驚くばかり。
その人は忙しそうにまたステージ袖に去ってしまう。
そしてよく見ると「阪神タイガース」って日本語で書いたデザインのカードが。裏返すとなんとその人の名刺！
一瞬どういうことかわからなかった私たち。（苦笑）Ｄさんがすかさず、「それ、電話してってことだよ」ってええええええ！
もしかして、バックステージにご招待とか？！いやいや、そんな期待をしてはならん。なんて葛藤しているうちに、ある女性が近づいて来て、今度はＫちゃんが手にしていたセットリストを売るようにせがみ始めるではないですか。
一度断っても「大金出すから」と引かない彼女。こんな格好して最前列におったうちらがセットリスト売るとでも思っとんのか？！（怒）
プライスレスだからだめって言っても引かない。しゃーないから「この子はねえ、日本からこのライブのためだけに来たんですよ。絶対売るわけないじゃない。」って言って追っ払いました。
ここまでくるのにどんだけ費用かかってると思ってんねん。何十万円も出すっちゅーんか。出されても売らないけど。
セットリスト欲しいなら、それなりの努力しないと。お金出して手に入れて、なんの意味があるねん。コスプレ外注するのと同じぐらい無意味やわ。
プールエリアから追い出され、大きな広間のようなところで物販の行列が収まるのを待つためにしばしイスに座って休憩。
浴衣はさすがに目立つようで、写真一緒に撮ってと頼まれたり、笑顔を投げかけられたり、面白かった。
少し落ち着いてから、さっきの名刺の番号にお電話。話してみるとそれはトロイのギターテックのＥさん。彼はなんと日本語ができる。浴衣を見てサインを読んで、日本から来たんだと思って後でよかったらお話しようと思って名刺をくれたらしい。片付け終わるまで１時間くらい待てますかと言われたので、もちろんですと答えてとりあえず切る。
この時点では、いったいＥさんはＥさんとだけのお喋りに誘ってくれたのか、はたまたアフターパーティにでも誘ってくれたのか、よくわからない状態。
電話で必死にクールを装っていた私は、あまり突っ込まないようにしてたので。でもＥさんとお話だけでもそれはそれは面白いことなので、待つことに。
ＥさんはＤさんの存在に気がついてないみたいなので、「もし、これがアフターパーティの招待で、Ｋちゃんと私だけだったらどうする？」とＤさんに聞いてみると、意外にも「俺は気にしないで行っておいで行っておいで。」と言うではないですか。ほんまにええのか、あんたそれで。（笑）
あまりにも喉が渇きすぎていたので、一度カジノの階まで降りたんだけど、あまりの混雑に座れるところはなさそう。
そりゃ今一番トレンディ（古っ）なホテルの土曜日だもの。大盛況ですわ。
売店で水を購入。さっきまでいた広間近くに確かラウンジがあって休めるところがいっぱいあったから、そこに戻ろう、とココで私が機転をきかせたことがすごい事件につながります、ねえさん。
戻ってみると、ライブに行ったっぽい青年が３人ほど休んでたので、私たちも開いてるラウンジチェアに座って水を飲みながら休憩。
するとしばらくして、開場だったプールの方向から歩いてくるのは、ジョシュとマイキーとクルー数人ではないですか。
あわわわわ
全くの想定外のジョシュの登場に慌てる慌てる。
慌てて立ち上がるとジョシュがこちらに気がつき、「うわぁ、ありがと〜」みたいな顔して、手を胸の前で合わせながらこちらに歩み寄ってくるではないですか。
その時ジョシュは「さっきのキモノの・・」というようなことをつぶやいたと思われ。
そして私たちが何もお願いする前に、ジョシュは自ら両手を開いてまずＫちゃんにハグのオファー！！！
やっぱりどっちが若いかわかるのだな、お主。（笑）そして続いて私もハグをゲット！ぎゃあああああああああ。
ここぞとしっかりハグる私。デヘヘへ。デヘヘヘヘヘ。
ジョシュは私たちに「来てくれてありがとう」と言い、私たちは「今日はありがとうございました」とお礼を返す。お礼を言いたいのはこっちですがな。
写真を一緒に撮らせてもらえませんかというリクエストに、ジョシュは「もちろん」とこれまた優しい。やっぱり怖い顔して優しいねん、この人。
ヒゲをちょっとはやし、でも数ヶ月前よりも格段に痩せたそのお顔は、まぶしいくらい男前。
カメラ担当はＤさん。私が「カメラ３つもあるんですけど、すいません」なんて取り繕っていると、Ｄさんも撮りながら「時間を割いてくれてありがとうジョシュ、疲れてるだろうに」。
するとジョシュは「そう、ジョシュアはお疲れなんだよ」と返す。ふふふ。本当にお疲れの様子だったのに、嫌な顔ひとつせずに私たちと写真をとり、その場にいた兄ちゃん達とも写真を撮り、エレベーターにのって行きました。
この間、マイキーはさっさと去ってしまって逃がしてしまった・・・。残念。
ジョシュが思いもよらず現れて、慌ててたので止める間も無かった・・・。
ジョシュが去るとＫちゃんと私は立っていられないような脱力感におそわれ、「ぐあああ。今の何？夢？マジ？」と現実が受けいられない。
ほっぺたつねったり、「夢じゃないの？」なんて言い合ったり。ああ、伝えたいことも聞いてみたいことももっとあったけど、本当に偶然すぎて驚きすぎて、何も言えなかった・・・。またしても！
その場にいた兄ちゃんたちと話すと、彼らは開演前にメンバーがそこのエレベーターから現れたの見たから、終わってからもココにいれば通るはずだと思って待ってたんだって。
そしてすぐ、今度はジョーイがやってくるではないですか。
ステージ上では怖そうなジョーイ。でも会ってみるとテディベアみたいな優しい雰囲気に包まれた、落ち着いたお兄さん。ムキムキだよー。
ジョシュはムチムチしてたけど（ハグや写真の時に触りまくってたw）ジョーイはさすがジョシュのメキシカン・マッスル。ムキムキでございました。
そしてもうお分かりですね、今度はディーンがやってきます。
オールバックでちゃんと見えるお顔はめちゃめちゃハンサムさんです。実物まぶしいです。
Dead Weatherでも何度か拝見してます、なんてちょっと言っちゃったりなんかしてw 両方数えたらディーンは６回はライブ観てる。超多才。
ジョシュもジャック（ホワイト）も一緒にバンドしたいはずですよ。
そして今度は待っていたＥさんがやってきました。
一緒にラウンジチェアに座って歓談させてもらっていると、そこにトロイがやってきて、他のファンに囲まれつつあるところをＥさんが「ヘイ、トロイ！」と声をかけて紹介してくれるではないですか。
トロイとも写真を撮らせてもらい、近くで見るとトロイもカッコイイ。ステージ上では髪でちょっと顔が隠れてるけど、カッコ良くてクールな兄さんでした。
最後にやってきたのは、ジョシュのギターテックのＲさん。
セッティングのときから見てたから誰だかすぐわかりました。ＥさんがＲさんも紹介してくれて、ちょっとだけお話きけて。なんて光栄で貴重な体験なんでしょ。
もうひとつピックをくれて、これで３人ともＱのカスタムピックをゲットできたあああああ、イエーイ！
話を聞くと、もう荷物まとめてバスに乗って出発の時間が迫っていると。パーティはないようで。←やっぱりちょっとガッカリしたw
「いやー今日は汗かいたからベトベトで俺汚いからー」とかいってやたら気にされてましたが、Ｒさん汗臭くもなかったなあ。気難しそうなおっちゃんかなと思ったら、気遣いの細かい方で。
そうだ、Ｅさんが「よかったらあのサイン、バンドに渡しておこうか？」と言ってサインを受け取ってくれました！なんとまあ。
その後、トロイがまた誰かを探しにあっち行ったりこっち行ったりしてたので「探してる人は見つかった？」とまた声をかけてみたら「見つからないんだよ〜。このホテルはもう〜（怒）」とか言いながら歩いて去って行ったのが面白かった。めちゃめちゃ広いんで、迷うんですよね。
Ｅさんを見送って、ホテルを去る時、ちょうど３時くらいかな？彼らが行っていた迎えのツアーバスがちょうどホテルに着いたところでした。
次のライブはまだ２日先だけど、もう出発するのはいち早くも臨月の奥さんの元にジョシュを帰すためだと思われ。
なんか予定だった８月上旬よりも早まるかもしれないんだそうで。フジロックをキャンセルしたのもそのためだそうで。
震災が理由じゃないだろうとは信じてましたけど、ちゃんと理由をＥさんから聞けてよかった。
日本好きのＥさんが「フジがキャンセルになって俺が一番ガッカリしたんだよー（苦笑）」って。
というわけで、ものすごい経験をしてしまいました。
頑張って浴衣着て良かった、浴衣なしでは実現しなかったことだったんではないでしょかね。
Ｋちゃんのサインの威力もあったんだなあ。
Ｋちゃんありがとう。
そして浴衣やサインのアイデアをくれたＥちゃん、背中を押してくれたＹさんも本当にありがとう。
みんなのサポートがなかったら、こんなに特別な日を経験することなどできなかったよー！

Q & A with Vincent D'Onofrio : Charity event for Utah Meth Cops ProjectComments: Part 2
This is a part 2 of my recounting of the Q & A with Vincent D'Onofrion which was held on June 4th 2011. Since I took notes in Japanese (it lets me write faster), I make no promise of the accuracy or the order of statements of anyone mentioned (or correct/coherent English grammar).
So after Vincent shared the story of how he ended up in Full Metal Jacket, a friend of mine asked a question;
"So the first film in which I ever saw you was 'Adventures in Babysitting' as the Thor when I was a child in 1987. You looked very fit and very 'Thor' like. Was that film shot before or after 'Full Metal Jacket'? I've been wondering because both of the films were released on the same year."
Vincent smiles at the mentioning of "Adventures in Babysitting" which I recently saw again and realized that the "Thor" was him in that one scene.
He said the order of the filming was; Full Metal Jacket, Mystic Pizza, then Adventures in Babysitting. Even though he said Kubrick takes a very long time to shoot and edit his film, we were all shocked how quickly he got back in the great shape after gaining 70-80 pounds. It shows his dedication to characters he plays.
The birth of Edgar to his Broadway role
Vincent also shared a story on how he created "Edgar" in Men In Black.
He said when the director Barry Sonnenfeld asked him to play the role, Vincent had one condition; a complete freedom on the character.
He said many great actors have their own ways to approach a role, but his was not to rehearse with other actors but often to create the character of his role alone and bring it to the shooting and spark reactions from others. So he was to "create" Edgar based on the script and bring it to the shooting without anyone knowing what was going to be like. You need to imagine there wasn't anything like that character before and he really created Edgar on his own.
As many actors do, he said, he began researching insects by watching documentaries. Trying the various movements of insects. He was able to learn those movements, but it didn't seem to click. One day, he was taking a walk on the streets in LA, he saw a sporting goods store. The store's window display had leg braces for injured basketball athletes. They were foot-to-thigh braces with joints at ankles and knees. And something clicked. He realized the character is an alien insect in a human body and trying to fit in as he pursue his mission on earth. So "he" must be uncomfortable and unable to control the human body very well. How would he have to control his new body? He thought, it's all about restraint. He went into the sporting goods store and bought a pair of the leg braces, stopped by at a home improvement store to get duct tapes, then went home.
First, he wore the leg braces and duct taped his ankles so that they are completely restricted from any movements. Next, he taped around his knees so that he can't bend his knees. Then, trying to express the multi-legged insect alien who's trying to restrain the movement to walk in the awkward human body on two feet. He put his knees together for control and what you see in the movie is what he came up with. Isn't that interesting?! He put so much thought into Edgar a lot more than I imagined.
The day of the shooting, he played Edgar according to his theory of how the character should move. No one knew what he was going to do. When the director said "Cut!" The crew was in complete silence. No one knew what to think of his performance. It was completely beyond anyone's imagination. He thought he was in trouble, he thought he'd be fired.
No one contacted him for days. He thought the producers are now discussing and contemplating how to get rid of him. And one day, he was called in for a meeting with the director and the producers. They were shooting the flying saucer scene which is toward the end of the movie. They told him they had created a pair of giant puppets, which cost them a lot of money ($10,000 each, he may have said), to play the insect alien in its true form in that scene. But it didn't work, because it didn't fit the character in human form which Vincent portrayed. So they have thrown away the puppets and decided to go with Computer Graphics. OK, he thought, but he's not even in the last scenes. Vincent asked why he was called in for this meeting and why they were telling him that. They said to him; "We just wanted to tell you that you're doing great." They must have viewed his scenes and loved what he did as Edgar and changed their expensive plan to make Edgar fit better.
A man sitting in front of me asked him how he felt watching the "finished product" of Edgar with special effects done over his acting. Vincent didn't seem to remember the finished film well. He usually doesn't like to watch his work later. Yes, there are obligations to attend screenings, and he thought MIB was a very entertaining movie, but doesn't remember particularly how he felt about "finished" Edgar.
He talked about why he doesn't like to watch his work later. He said it is bit strange to watch his work, and he'd rather concentrate on the process of building characters and performing them well. He said he doesn't think of what audience would think of his work after he worked on a film. He said; "it's for the audience to decide."
Then he went on to talk about his Broadway days in relation to this topic of audience. Sometimes, he said, while sitting in his dressing room in a theater, doing the same play he'd done tens of times again was the last think he wanted to do. Like when he was in the play "Tooth of Crime." But every time he heard audience starting to take their seats through the speaker system, which connected the stage and the dressing rooms, with their chatting noises and excitement in anticipation of the play which was about to be performed in front of them, it made him realize and become self-aware that he is a story teller from whom this audience is going to hear the story for the very first time. Then he always regained his excitement.

Thursday June 4th, I hurried home after work, immediately started curling my hair and touching up my make up.
It was the day for Q &A with Vincent D'Onofrio at Best Western/CottonTree Inn in Sandy Utah. This even is to raise money for Utah Meth Cops Project, which provides Utah's police officers who have been exposed to toxic chemicals during busing hundreds of meth labs.

I used to live upstairs from twitchy people, who vaccummed at 3:00 AM, had different people coming by briefly, and sometimes, strangers sitting by their door waiting for them to come home. They smoked in the building which woke us up frequently. I hated the neighbor, but I was told not to confront them directly since they could be on meth and unpredictably violent.
So I have much appreciation on police officers who work hard to get rid of meth labs and its dealers, and happy to support such great cause.
Every year, Vincent comes to support the "Ride for a hero" event which you participate with your motorcycle and ride the great outdoors of Wasatch Front for a couple of hours. I've never gone to the event since I don't own a motorcycle.
This year, I heard of Q & A event with Vincent, and I, a big film fan and supporter of Sundance Film Festival (6-time full-time volunteer), jumped on it. Luckily, I wasn't the only film geeks at work and three other ladies joined in with me.
The day of the event, we all carpooled to head to Sandy after work, and I don't know what we were thinking, but we were running late.
When we found the venue, we were about 7 minutes late. (So sorry.) Despite having me spelled my name 3 times on the phone, I was NOT on the registration list. Thank goodness, one of us also registered without knowing that I had already done, we submitted our donations of $40 each and went inside.
It was a surprisingly small conference room in the hotel, and Vincent was already talking. One of the organizers asked some people to move into the room so that we could seat without disrupting too much. (Thank you) For a while, I couldn't believe he was in front of us and I was hearing his real voice.
There were 5 rows of about 10 chairs. Vincent was sitting on the front of the room. No need for a microphone, that's how small the room was. There were about 20 people in the room.
*I'm going to recount his stories as much as I can, but not promising they are his direct quotes. But I took notes like a good film geek to share with everyone later.
He was answering a question on how he ended up starring in Full Metal Jacket. He said he was working in NYC as a Broadway actor and a night club bouncer. His actor friend told him that Stanley Kubrick was accepting audition tapes from actors for his next film. So they rented camera equipments, which was big and you have to put on your shoulders and came with a separate tape deck, then shot each other doing monologues.
He got a call to meet Kubrick and he said he didn't even realize it was Kubrick when he met him. Kubrick sat Vincent down next to him and had him watch the shoot for three hours. He said he didn't say a word because he was so nervous. He was asked if he'd gain weight for a role. He said yes and he was in. So he tried to gain weight and going under military training with other actors who are playing soldiers. He said it was difficult to gain weight because of the training and he was young.
He was flown to England where the film shoot was going on, and placed in a terrible hotel room. He said that the studio took advantage of him who didn't know anything about film industry. He didn't even had an agent yet.
So he sat in the dirty hotel room until a phone call came in. He went onto the set and Kubrick recognized him. Kubrick told him he looked strong, not overweight. He was supposed to play a soldier who is overweight and weak-minded. He was told to gain more weight and given a studio credit card. The first thing he did was to check out from the dirty hotel and checked himself in a more decent, not fancy, decent hotel.
One participant asked how he gained weight. He said that it was easy to gain weight in England, because it's all about meat and potatoes. His typical breakfast was 6 eggs, half a loaf bread, and a pound of bacon. (!!!) By then, he had read the script more than a few times and read both of the books on which the script was based on, so he had clear image of how he should look to play the role. He gained total of 70 to 80 pounds for the role.
Vincent went back on the set and Kubrick was shocked and said; "You would do that for a role?" Vincent replied; "I've already done it." Hahaha.
Full Metal Jacket is his favorite film he's done, because it launched his film career and he constantly have had acting jobs since then.

６月２日木曜日、仕事を終えて急いで帰宅し、化粧を直し、髪を巻き始めた私。
そう、その日はヴィンセント・ドノフリオのＱ＆Ａチャリティイベントの日だったのです。このイベントは、合成麻薬の取り締まりの過程で、体に害のある化学物質にされされてしまったユタの警察官が治療・デトックスできる施設の運営をするために募金を集めている、Utah Meth Cops Projectという団体が主催のイベントです。ユタでレストランを経営するヴィンセントのお姉さんがこの団体の支援をしていることから、彼も毎年支援に来るようになったそうです。
私は以前、合成麻薬やってそうな人達の上階に住んでいたことがあり、深夜に掃除機かけられたり、いろんな人達が行き交っていたり、時には知らない人がドアの前で帰りを待っているようすを見たり、すごく嫌でした。部屋の中でタバコ吸われて夜中に何度も目が覚めたこともありましたが、決して直接文句を言いに行ってはいけないと言われていました。なぜなら、覚せい剤をやっているとしたら、突然暴力的になったりすることもあるので危ないからなのです。そんなこんなで、こういう怪しい人達を取り締まってくれる警察官の支援なら、容易い御用だと思ったのです。
毎年、Ride For A Heroというバイクライダー向けのチャリティイベントの支援に来ていたのは知っていたのですが、私はバイクは持ってないので参加することもできず、ああ、いらっしゃってるんだなと思っているだけでした。
ところが今年はそれに加えて、ホテルの会議場でのＱ＆Ａイベントがあると聞き、映画オタクな私は真っ先に参加を表明。続いて職場の友達も数名参加することになり、一緒に行くことになりました。
仕事の後それぞれ帰宅して用意して、一台の車で拾って行くうちに、不覚にも数分遅刻。（汗）ついたときは始まって７分くらい経ってしまっていました。
着いて受付で名前を告げるも、予約した代表者の私の名前が載ってない。３回もスペルを教えたのに、載ってない。（怒）幸運にも、私が登録をしたことを知らずに予約してくれていた友人のおかげで無事に入れました。それぞれ＄４０を納めて静かに中に入ります。
中は小さな会議室で、うーん、１５畳あったかなというくらい。イスが１０脚ほど、５列に並んでいて、部屋の正面にヴィンセントが座って話していました。マイクはありません。マイクが要らないくらい小さい会場だったのです。
しばらくヴィンセントがそこにいて生声が聞こえてくることが信じられなくて呆然とする私。（笑）後ろの方ですが、空席のおかげでがっつり彼が見える席に座ることができました。目が合っても動揺してないフリするのが大変だったのなんの。（笑）
＊ここからはできる限りヴィンセントの話を振り返りますが、彼の発言そのままという約束はできませんのであしからず。あくまでも要約です。でもノートを取ったので頑張って書きます。
ヴィンセントはどういういきさつでフルメタルジャケットに出演することになったのかという質問に回答しているところでした。彼は当時、ニューヨークでブロードウェイに出たり、ナイトクラブのバウンサー（表での警備）のお仕事をしていました。ある日役者仲間がスタンリー・キューブリックが次回作のためにオーディションテープを役者から受け付けていると持ちかけます。ふたりはカメラの機材をレンタル（当時は大きな方に担ぐようなカメラで、別にあるテープデッキも接続しなければいけないような物）して、お互いがモノローグをしている様子を撮影し、テープを監督の事務所に送ったそうです。
ヴィンセントのテープが監督の目に留まり、対面することに。しかし声をかけられても始めはそれが監督だと気がつかなかったそうで「なんだこのおっさんは」とか思ってしまったそうです。（笑）監督はヴィンセントを隣に座らせ、３時間ほど撮影・監督しているようすを彼に見学させたそうです。その間、あまりに緊張しすぎて何も言えなかったそうな。
役柄のために体重を増やせるかと聞かれ、なんでもやる気だったヴィンセントは即答。その場で雇われます。その後、体重を増やす食生活をしながら、他の役者と共に海兵隊員を演じるために軍隊式の訓練に参加。その厳しい訓練とまだ体が若かったことから、増量するのは難しかったそうです。
その後、撮影が進行しているイギリスへと渡り、とてつもなく不衛生なホテルに放り込まれ、ひたすら電話を待つ日々が始まります。制作側が彼が映画のビジネスを全く知らないのを利用して、そんな場所に入れられたんだとそうで。（笑）
やっと電話が入り、撮影現場へ。キューブリック監督はすぐヴィンセントだとわかり、呼び寄せます。結構な増量に成功していましたが、それでも太り過ぎで弱音を吐く兵士の役柄とはほど遠いほど強そうで太っていない、と指摘されます。もっと体重を増やすように言われ、制作会社のクレジットカードを渡されて帰されてしまいます。
クレジットカードを手にして一番始めにしたことは、その酷いホテルから出ること（笑）。高級ではないけどもっと清潔なホテルに自分で移ったそうです。
そこで参加者の一人が「どうやって体重をもっと増やしたんですか？」と質問。彼は、「イギリスで太るのは簡単だよ。だって食事はジャガイモと肉ばかりだもの。」と笑顔で答えました。増量作戦時の朝食メニューは、卵６個、パン半斤、ベーコン１パウンド（445g）。餃子の王将もビックリです。
その頃には、脚本をもう何度も読んで、脚本がベースにした原作２本も読んでいたので、自分の役柄がどういう外見であるべきがハッキリイメージができていたんだそうです。結局彼は合計で７０パウンド（32kg）から８０パウンド（３６kg）増量したんだそうです。たまげた。
役柄に満足な体系になってから、撮影現場に戻ります。キューブリック監督は彼を見ると驚いて「役のためにそこまでするんだ？！」と言い、ヴィンセントは「もうしちゃいましたよ。」と答えたそうです。（笑）
彼は、フルメタルジャケットは今まで関わった映画の中で一番のお気に入り、なぜならこの映画によって映画俳優としてのキャリアの基盤ができたし、この作品以降、役者の仕事が耐えることがなかったから、と言ってこの話をまとめました。

やっとスキーヤーになれた
お久しぶりです。
ユタに引っ越してきてから、スキーを長いことしたことがありませんでした。初めの３・４年は学生だったので、そんな時間もなければお金もないので『もったいない』という日本のスキーヤーのツッコミもそれでかわしてきました。
さあ社会人になり、そういう言い訳もできなくなりました。
でもまあ高いですからね、ひとり暮らしの間はやっぱり行きませんでした。
やっと重い腰を上げたのが、三十路を目の前にしたある秋。
一家でスキーを楽しまれる友人ご夫妻とお子さんたちに便乗させていただきました。
ご夫婦に付き合っていただき、教えてもらったのですが、なかなか怖い、と思ってしまう気持ちがぬぐえず、こけまくり。
後日自分でそのスキー場に戻って、グループレッスンを２回受け、やっと楽しくなってきたところで、２年間また行きませんでした。
先月、日本から大学時代の先輩がたずねてきてくださり、スキーヤーのその先輩とリベンジしてきました。
初めて初心者用じゃないリフトパスを買い、スキー場全部のリフトも攻略しました。
始めは力んじゃってすぐふくらはぎが痛くなったりしたんですが、先輩のアドバイスの下、段々と体に無理な負担をかけずに滑れるようになってきました。
教えていただいたポイントは、まず体はリラックスさせること。緊張と恐怖感でガチガチでは、ターンに必要なスムーズな体重移動もできません。
そして、スネに重心を少し預けるように心がけ、足の重心はかかとではなく先の方。まっすぐ立たないで前かがみになる方が、コントロールを保持しやすいこともわかりました。
ちょっとでもまっすぐ立ってダラダラしちゃうと、重心がかかとに行き、自分ではコントロールできない感じになり、それがまた怖くなり、そしてパニックになっていくんですなあ。
コツをつかむと、そんなに足腰疲れないよ、というアドバイス、本当でした。２回目のスキーの日、一回ランしただけで、土踏まずやふくらはぎが痛み始めたのですが、上記のポイントを自分に言い聞かせるようにしたら、痛みはおさまりました。
スキーって恐怖心との闘いでもあるんですよ、初心者にとっては。
怖いって思っちゃうとこけます。そんな感じがします。
というわけで、スキーは毎年行こうと思いました。
高いですけど、１回はね、行っておきたいです。
あ、でも１回じゃ上手にはならないか。
あけましておめでとうございます。そしてサンダンス映画祭
２４日に新年の挨拶はないでしょうって感じですが、今年もよろしくお願いします。
こちらはただいまサンダンス映画祭期間中です。
わたくし、仕事休んでボランティアを過去６回経験しているのでベテランと言われればそうなのですが、今年はやってません。
やらないってなるとさみしーですねー。
やっぱりやりたいんじゃないか、自分。
今でも裏方大好きです。
雑用でも運転手でも難しい通訳でも、やってて楽しい。
サンダンスで仕事できるチャンスがめぐってきたら飛びついてみたいと思います。
あるにはあるみたいなんですけどね、季節労働なんですよね。ボランティアで成り立っている非営利団体なので、フルタイムの長期の仕事ってなかなかめぐってきません。住宅ローン払ってる身としては飛びつけませんネ。（笑）
昨年日本映画がひとつもこなくてさみしかったんですが、ことしは「Abraxas」っていうのが来るらしいです。面白そうですねー、この映画！映画祭でのプレミアは明日かな？チケット売り切れです。話題作のひとつのようで。
ソルトレイクシティにはインディーズ専門の映画館がありましして、１月の映画祭での話題作はそこで夏や秋に上映されることが多いので、それを期待して待ちたいと思います。
まだアメリカでの配給はついていないのかな？まだ上映されてませんしね。配給会社もたくさん来ていて、次々と配給が決まった作品のニュースを耳にします。
来年はまたボランティアやりたいなあ、なんて思いながら、今年の年末からお正月にかけて休暇とって日本にいくなら無理だろう、と今気がついてさらにちょっと寂しいのでした。（苦笑）
ともさかりえさんをもし見かけたら「どっちでもIN」持ってます〜！とか叫んで恥ずかしい想いをさせてしまおうかなんて企んでいます。ふわははははは。
すでに年末
かなり間が開いてしまいました。
みなさんいかがお過ごしでしょうか。
ユタは11月に雪が降ったものの、そこからまた暖かくなってしまい、なかなか氷点下の日々がやってきません。降っても雨ばかり。
雪が降らない、降っても積もらない町で育った私としては、物足りません。せっかく雪国に住んでいるのに。
そんなこんなで、今年のクリスマスは珍しく雪が降らないそうです。
さて、明日から仕事は２８日までお休みです。
普段はその後元旦しかお休みがもらえませんが、１日が土曜であるためか大晦日が振り替え休日、そして３日月曜日は大学がなぜか閉鎖日に。ユタに来て初めて「お正月三が日」お休みをいただきます。いつも２月くらいになるまで年を越した気がしませんが、今回は違うかも。
クリスマス休暇と、お正月休暇両方もらえるなんてラッキー。
でも本当は来年こういう日程になっていればなあ、と思えてなりません。
なぜなら来年の年末は里帰りするから。きゃっきゃ。
今から楽しみで楽しみで。
２０１１年はひたすら旅費を貯める年になるというわけです。
２年に一度は帰っているから貯金などないに等しい。（−＿−；
クリスマスを越すとアジア食品屋さんがにわかに忙しくなって品切れなどもあるようなので、今のうちに餅など買い込みに行かねばと思っています。
おせち、売ってくれる日本食屋さんがあったらいいのになあ。
プラスチックの平皿に盛ってくれるところはあるらしいですが、中身が全然おせちじゃないらしい。「なんちゃっておせち」らしいです。
寿司とか入るんですって。それじゃあ日持ちしないからおせちの意味がない・・・。（笑）おせちを作ることができる技術があるお店がないっていうことなんでしょうか。その点カリフォルニアはいいですね、ちゃんとしたおせちを販売してくれる日本食屋さんがあるとか。

わめき騒ぐなら、せめて宿題はしましょう
モスク建設賛否両派がデモ NY

[1] 厳密にはモスクではありません。ムスリム系コミュニティセンターです。クラスルームやお料理教室用キッチン、多目的ホールなどがあり、その一部が礼拝ができる部屋になっているだけ。しかも礼拝の宗教は問わない部屋。普通の学校や会社でも、礼拝できるスペースを確保しているところはあるわけで、それもみんなモスクと呼ぶのかと私は言いたい。「グラウンド・ゼロ・モスク」という表現を押しているのはＦＯＸであり、それをそのまま訳して使っているこの日本の記事はおかしい。モスクであってもなんの問題もないと私は思いますが、「モスク」という言葉を使って煽っている感が否めません。
[2] そもそも、同時多発テロを起こしたアルカイダがイスラム教を使っているからといって、すべてのイスラム教徒がテロリストだと思っているのが間違い。知識不足からの見としかいいようがない。国内で起こったテロの大半はクリスチャンの白人のアメリカ人によるものであることも表記しておきたい。反対派の論理は、戦時中に関係ないはずの日系アメリカ人が、日系だから日本のスパイであるとみなされて、収容所に入れられたのと同じ理論。それは『間違った行為』だと一旦納得したはずなのに、恐怖に駆られて区別も付かずに偏見に走る、情けない。それに、一部のモルモン原理主義者の話題があがると、普通のモルモン教徒全員が一夫多妻制だとかよくも知らないのに言う人がいるけど、それくらい次元の低い反対派の議論に首をかしげる。
[3]反対することは「テロ戦争」を「宗教戦争」として正当化するアルカイダの議論をバックアップすることになる。同じレベルに落ちてはいけない。ここでこそ、イスラム系コミュニティセンターの引越しを認め、アメリカの憲法で認められている「宗教の自由」をかざしてアルカイダよりも崇高な社会理念を持っていることを強調するべき。
[4] すでに近くにモスクが既存している。それよりも遠いところにこのコミュニティセンターを移すべきというのはおかしい。仮にこれがモスクであっても同じで問題はないはず。それにモスクは全米にある。ユタにだってある。
よう調べもせんと、勘違いにはき違いしたまま、反対しよるで。
反対派は議論にもなってない。
アメリカは時事問題に関する教養もないのに騒ぎたがる２０％の市民のおかげでどんどん足を引っ張られている気がする。
