In a report released from the hospital examining the cause of death of this journalist, it is reported that:

“X-rays displayed by physicians who examined the body of Fadel Shana in Gaza’s Shifa hospital showed several of the controversial weapons, known as flechettes, embedded in the 23-year-old Palestinian’s chest and legs.”
    http://www.reuters.com/article/featuredCrisis/idUSL17823304

In this report from B’Tselem on the use of flechettes:
The great danger posed by flechettes to civilians not involved in the hostilities led the OC Central Command to forbid the use of flechettes in the West Bank. Given that most of the incidents of gunfire in the Gaza Strip occur in or near populated areas, the use of flechette shells should also be prohibited in Gaza, particularly given the variety and sophistication of the weapons available to the IDF. The failure of the OC Southern Command to prohibit this weapon is particularly troubling.
In October 2002, Physicians for Human Rights-Israel and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights petitioned the High Court of Justice to forbid the IDF to use flechette shells in the Occupied Territories. The High Court denied the petition.

In its decision, given in April 2003, the justices recognized that “the use of flechettes – which are intended to strike field targets – entails increased danger that they will accidentally also hit persons who are not involved in the fighting against the army, but find themselves in the area at which the shell was fired.” The High Court also understood that innocent civilians in the Occupied Territories were in fact struck, and some civilians were killed, by flechettes. Nevertheless, the justices chose to favor the formalistic arguments and ignored basic rules of international law. In their decision, the justices stated that “the use of flechettes is not explicitly prohibited by international law,” and that “the choice of the means of warfare that the Respondents use to thwart murderous terrorist acts before they occur is not among the subjects with which this court finds it appropriate to interfere.” The justices added that “the Respondents satisfied us” that the scope of the use of flechettes is limited in accordance with rules under which the forces in the field operate and that the commander in the field is obliged to act in accordance with directives intended to prevent harm to civilians. These rules and instructions were never presented to the High Court.

This report from Time Magazine reports that depleted uranium is what makes the flechette the “Magic Bullet”
When it enters the target, the flechette is stripped of an ablative coating that has protected the uranium from the 1000° F. temperature generated by air friction (solid uranium will ignite at 338° F.) As the bare depleted uranium comes in contact with steel, an exothermic, or heat-producing, effect occurs when the metals react chemically. This instantaneous heating, combined with the searing heat of impact, raises the temperature of the surrounding steel to such a degree that the flechette literally melts its way through, leaving a hole many times its own diameter.

This is the weapon that killed Fadel Shana, a journalist. Targeting journalists is a war crime.

Israel has committed yet another war crime, it will not be it’s last, until the world wakes up and in particular the US which gives its’ unyielding support to the state of Israel. Partners in crime they are, and it is the most grievous sin against humanity.

It has been reported today the Israeli flags will substitute for American ones on the coffins of American soldiers killed in Iraq. This tells me two things- we are irrefutably fighting Israel’s wars for them and America is a colony of Israel. Not only is our ENTIRE government under Israeli rule, paying TRILLIONS for their wars but they are pushing for 200 billion more in ww2 ‘reparations’, much like the children of Germans, many not alive during the war will be extorted out of billions more. The Bush hole also signed nuclear support agreements with Israel violating both US and International law. As an American I demand that aid to Israel be stopped immediately under the rule prohibiting aid to rogue nuclear nations. And the fact that Israel is buying Iranian oil via Europe adds yet another slap in the face. We have all these shiny new kosher FEMA camps for a reason people…………

People are more concerned with Tibet right now – The Palestinian cause / deaths gains little recongition when there is no news (even FOUND : Amusing root vegetable discovered in back garden – would get more news coverage than a Palestinian death). Now however you have a well organised Tibetan movement backed by Hollywood with 100,00’s of people jumping on board….

Tibet has managaed managed to get better (more symphatetic) media coverage in months than Palestinians in years….

These photos are truly sad. As an Israeli, I want peace as much as any Palestinian. We want to live in peace and harmony here in Middle East. These photos represent only the Gaza side in the conflict. Where are the photos from day by day missile bombs on israeli Sderot city? Where are the images of Israeli civilians hit by “KASAM” missiles? These photos shown here are after a heavy suicide attack of Hamas militias on Israel. Please show the whole story! Two years ago Israel withdraw from Gaza strip. We have no troops there any more at all, so what’s the reason for shooting missiles at Israel DAY BY DAY???

‘ Where are the images of Israeli civilians hit by “KASAM” missiles? ‘ : Igal, the very little unworth mentioning damage caused by Hammas who are trying to resist the monstrous Israeli war machinery is incomparable to the genocide caused by Israeli army.. More than 300 Palestinians have died so far, Can you tell me how many Israelis died in return?? Use your fingers they are enough to count the number… Over the past decades, how many Lebanese died.? more than one thousand in 2006 war on lebanon only, and how many Israelis died??? We who are terminated in thousands end up to be the terrosists and you who kill and slaughter and lose a couple in return are the victims and the peace makers!!!! Come on!! you are insulting your intelligence indeed!! STOP KILLING AND SLAUGHTERING, STOP THE BOODBATH IN THE MIDDlE EAST!! STOP STEALING OUR RIGHTS TO LIFE AND FREEDOM!!!
