Evo Japan 2024 is officially underway and folks from all over the globe are in attendance and ready for an action-packed weekend of fighting game fun. While there will undoubtedly be some incredible competition across the multitude of games on this year's line up, viewers can also likely look forward to several major announcements from some of the best fighting game developers in the business.
Arc System Works is in attendance at the event and so is Guilty Gear Strive, and from the looks of it there's a good chance we'll be seeing the game's next and final Season 3 DLC character unveiled. The official Guilty Gear Twitter account tweeted out a photo from the Evo Japan 2024 show floor showing a cardboard standee at the Guilty Gear booth that now provides the full look at the silhouette for the next Season 3 DLC character — and we're fairly certain we know who it is.
It's finally time for one of the biggest events of the year to kick off — Evo Japan is back for 2024 and it'll once again be happening in Tokyo, Japan.
There are far too many notable players participating to list them all, but just a small sample of the beasts participating in the main games is as follows: Bandits|MenaRD, DRX|Knee, RB|Gachikun, BST|Fuudo, UMA327, Rohto|Tokido, FLY|Punk, TSM|Leffen, SANWA|Laggia, DouyuTV|Xiao Hai, HB|Kawano, Fukunaga, GS|Gamera, KDF|CBM, Varrel|Ao, Yesports|Chris Wong, KDF|Ulsan, SANWA|M', XG|ET, Tako, DRX|LowHigh, KDF|Meo-IL, Varrel|Rangchu, RB|Bonchan, PWS|Tahichi, Ibushigin|Tororo, DRX|Leshar, Ibushigin|Kakeru, MR|Umisho, Twis|Slash, FLY|TempestNYC, AMTRS|Score, Revo|Clearlamp, Oushuu-Hittou, MadKOF, Gobou, SNB|Yamaguchi, Watanabe, Saint, Yamasa|Nobi, Nuki, JeonDDing, Doujin, KDF|Mulgold, THY|Chikurin, Shirokuro, GS|Sho and Maikeru, but there are countless more top players waiting in the brackets looking to reach those top spots.
Mortal Kombat 1 has just seen the release of its latest main roster DLC character, Ermac, and it looks like NetherRealm Studios is keeping their momentum going with the first year of content.
Series co-creator Ed Boon took to Twitter today to share the first-ever in-game look at the game's next DLC fighter, The Boys' own Homelander. On top of sharing a quick teaser video for the upcoming combatant, Boon also listed out all kinds of other content that fans should still expect to see added to Mortal Kombat 1 down the road.

This week has seen the big gameplay reveal of upcoming Versus-style fighting game Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact. With the title having a playable demo on the Evo Japan 2024 show floor this weekend, those making the game are sharing all kinds of information and footage giving fans the opportunity to familiarize themselves with it before they get a chance to play it for the first time.
With some of the footage that has already been shared, those who enjoy the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 series and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom probably noticed that Nen Impact looks similar visually. You're not wrong as there are several animations and visual choices in Nen Impact that look exactly (or very close) like things found in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.
Catalyst and I are back on Talk and Block to put together our final tier lists for the first season of Street Fighter 6. The game evolved a notable bit back in late February when Ed dropped, and now that we've had some time with these changes we've got updated orderings for the entire 21 character roster.
The two of us discuss and debate placements for all fighters as we argue our way through the top and bottom of the bunch. Continue on to see how things shake out.
With my review of Mortal Kombat 1, I described Invasion mode as being very grindy and tedious. Since that first season of Invasion, I actually haven't touched the mode, but it's easy enough to tell that NetherRealm Studios has been working towards addressing some of the problems associated with the mode.
A clip posted by A Bag in a Salt’s World about one of the battles in Invasion recently caught my attention. During the battle against "Peace Destroyer" (Liu Kang), the opponent will apparently throw out the equivalent of Dragon Ball Z's Kamehameha Wave.

Texas Showdown is back again for 2024 and as you'd expect it's happening in Houston, Texas, U.S.A.

Update: The somewhat mysterious server maintenance period has concluded and Capcom has revealed that phase 4 of ranked play will begin on May 1 at 12 a.m. PDT. All Master level players will be reset to 1500 MR, and players who are Legend rank when phase 3 ends will be awarded special titles some time after phase 4 begins.
Earlier:Capcom announced via X that Street Fighter 6 servers will be going down for some scheduled maintenance Thursday evening at 8 p.m. PDT. The big question that likely comes to mind given audience anticipation for upcoming DLC character Akuma is whether or not this will be in preparation for showcasing any kind of new information or footage of the beloved Street Fighter mainstay.
While many have been quick to point out it looks like a title from a console generation or two past, the upcoming Hunter x Hunter Nen Impact has been turning heads in the fighting game community since our first major gameplay reveal Thursday.
Said reveal showed off six of the three on three fighting game's roster members, but an additional two more have popped up since, albeit screen time for both is brief thus far. Continue on to see Machi Komancine and Uvogin.
Street Fighter 6 fans are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the game's first major balance patch and the start of Season 2. The next DLC character and final one for the game's first season of content, Akuma, is getting fairly close to launch — based on everything we've seen so far — and it's looking like the big balance update is coming soon too.
While a lot of us wait, we're taking the time to create final tier lists for the current version of the game before things change heavily. Top player from the Dominican Republic Tigers|CrossoverRD has joined in on the fun and recently put together a final tier list for Season 1 of Street Fighter 6.
Tekken 8 is rapidly coming up on its third full month since launch, and though it sold over 2 million copies pretty quickly, there's obviously a ton of people who haven't picked it up yet.
Those who've been waiting for Tekken 8 to go on sale may be in luck, as Bandai Namco's new fighter just received the first official discount we've seen (at least on one platform).
The first ever gameplay footage of the upcoming Versus-style fighting game, Hunter x Hunter Nen Impact has been unveiled ahead of its Evo Japan 2024 show floor appearance. Fans have been anxiously awaiting this gameplay reveal so that they could finally confirm that it will be a traditional fighter, and from the looks of it, it will be.
However, some fans are sharing concerns with the game's visuals already, and with the reveal of this title's character select screen, there are also other concerns on social media that are starting to surface. Not only did we get our first look at said character select screen, but some fans were quick to notice that there doesn't appear to be many character slots available on it — especially considering typical rosters for Versus-style games.
The online world of Tekken 8 has been a bit marred by cheaters and bad actors since the hot new title dropped back in January, and developer Bandai Namco has been working to update the experience to limit nefarious actions.
In addition to cheating, plugging (disconnecting early), inappropriate names or custom creations, glitching, rank boosting, and unauthorized use of mods, Bandai has added yet another transgression that will get players' accounts suspended should they engage in it.
The main roster for Mortal Kombat 1 grew just recently as the many souls that make up Ermac joined the fray in mid April, and pro player Tweedy has come up with a new tier list that includes the latest DLC character.
Tweedy's list spreads the game's 27 main characters across four tier levels and is detailed down to the individual, left to right placements. He does not include the Kameo characters on this list, thought does consider the potential of each fighter given their best Kameo match ups.
We're gearing up for what's shaping up to be a grand weekend for the fighting game community as Evo Japan promises not only world class competition across multiple titles, but also strong potential for new reveals and updates.
This process has already begun as publisher Bushiroad Games and developer Eighting (Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Bloody Roar) have released a full 13 minutes of gameplay footage (via CAG Osaka) for the recently announced three on three fighting game: Hunter x Hunter Nen Impact.
This weekend is shaping up to be a grand time for fighting game fans with world-class competition incoming across multiple titles though you may need to adjust your sleep schedule to catch it live if you're in the western hemisphere.
On top of the tournaments themselves, Evo Japan 2024 is also shaping up to be a pretty massive event in terms of big fighting game announcements with looks at what's coming next for the genre.
