East Coast International Showcase welcomes some of the best juniors from Jamaica and USA

Over 1200 athletes including 130 from Jamaica will be participating at this weekend's East Coast International showcase at the PG Sports Complex in Maryland.

The event will feature some of the best junior athletes from The United States, Jamaica, Canada, The Bahamas, and Cayman Islands

The Grange Hill High school in Westmoreland has received additional support, in the form of police school resource officers, to help tackle issues relating to crime and violence.  

This following the murder of 16-year-old student Carson Barrett, and the wounding of a female student, last month.

amaica has moved up 8 places  on the World Press Freedom Index.

The press freedom rankings for 2024 place Jamaica at 24 out of 180 countries, up from 32 last year.

Rankings closer to 1 signify a free press, while rankings closer to 180 mean there are press restrictions.

The Media Association of Jamaica, MAJ says the trickle- down effects of global dynamics, continue to constrain local media’s ability to operate at desired levels of effectiveness. 

As it marks world press freedom day, it says this is  tantamount to financially induced censorship.

The police are working with the manufacturer of a local curry brand to verify the ingredients of packages of counterfeit curry which were seized at a supermarket in Manchester, on Wednesday. 

It's reported that several boxes of fake curry were seized at the business place.
