It is located next to [ of Kumamoto Ichi ] south, and adjoins on both sides of Midorikawa.
Although most towns are the pastoral land which makes one corner of the Kumamoto plain and it is a flat bog with many brooks or waterways, the southeast part serves as forest zones, such as gannkaiyama.
The National Route 3 and Kagoshima Line which are the main arteries of Kyushu have penetrated the center of a town north and south (there was no station to a merger).
Moreover, the Kumamoto synthesis vehicles place of the Kyushu Shinkansen is installed in the Tomiai neighborhood.
A nearby airport is Kumamoto Airport.
Although Kagoshima Line passed in the neighborhood, there was no station until now (the near station was Kawajiri Station or Udo Station).
In addition, after merging to Kumamoto, installation of the new station to the old Tomiai neighborhood and Tomiai Station was decided in return for the passing Kyushu Shinkansen rail yard construction, and business was started on March 12, 2011.
