Making sense of the spring art auctions
In a photo provided by Christie's shows, Georgina Hilton, the auctioneer at Christie’s, opened the sale for the Rosa de la Cruz art collection on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Although a cyberattack hobbled its website, the auction house held two major sales, totaling $115 million, on Tuesday night. In the October 1992 issue of Artforum, Lawrence Chua dived into the DIY publishing maelstrom of “Queercore,” a hybrid of both LGBTQIA+ and hard-core punk aesthetics that provided an alternative to mainstream gay glossies, such as Out and Genre. “Queercore’s Xerox-ed broadsides . . . make marginality their starting point, empowering voices excluded from the slicker journals. Yet separatism in queercore’s pages is less a goal than a strategy to undermine the very notions of ‘inside’ and ‘out,’” Chua observes. Vaginal Davis, he argues, “epitomizes Queercore’s gleefully provocative diversity.”

半月近く前、ゴールデンウィーク中の話になってしまいましたが、5日の午後は恵比寿へ。この展覧会を観てきました。
『没後50年 木村伊兵衛 写真に生きる』

新興写真勃興期の1920年代に活動を始め、Laica によるスナップショットの作風で知られる 木村 伊兵衛 の回顧展です。
名を知るはもちろん、企画展やコレクション展示などで何度も観たことはありましたが、こうして回顧展としてまとめて観るのは初めてです。
出展された写真のうち戦前のものは沖縄を撮ったものと肖像写真など1割程度で、ほとんど戦後のもので。
そんな展示構成もあってか、
戦間期の『光画』などの新興写真 [鑑賞メモ] ではなく、
戦後20世紀半ば (1950-60年代) の Robert Doisneau [鑑賞メモ] などに近い作風に気づかされた展覧会でした。

しかし、作風が多様で、展覧会全体としては焦点が定まらない感もありました。
